Tottenham Hotspur Yid Army Now Illegal, Police Will Arrest Jews Using ‘Racist Chants’

Tottenham Hotspur racist chants by soccer fans is now considered a criminal offense if you happen to mention the Tottenham Hotspur “yid army.”

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Hobby Lobby’s Jewish holiday controversy was attacked by Seth Rogen over the weekend on Twitter.

London’s Tottenham Hotspur Premier League team has another controversy of their own. Scotland Yard has threatened Tottenham Hotspur soccer team fans with arrest if they happen to use the word “yid” in any of their chants even if they happen to be Jewish fans of the team. They have been warned that the use of the term “yid” in any public setting amounts to a criminal offense with charges related to racism. Tottenham Hotspur fans might find themselves booted from attending soccer matches for the foreseeable future.

The word yid is considered a derogatory reference to Yiddish Jewish people. But some supporters of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club use the term as a badge of honor and reference themselves as the Tottenham Hotspur Yid Army. But some people think the continued usage of the term will only invite more racism.

The match commander warned that Tottenham Hotspur fans’ “racism and offensive language have no place in football or indeed in society. Those supporters who engage in such behavior should be under no illusion that they may be committing an offence and may be liable to a warning or be arrested.”

Even British Prime Minister David Cameron had something to say about the Yid Army:

“There’s a difference between Spurs fans self-describing themselves as Yids and someone calling someone a Yid as an insult. You have to be motivated by hate. Hate speech should be prosecuted but only when it’s motivated by hate.”

But for Tottenham Hotspur, yid has continued to be used commonly through the weekend despite police threats. Thousands of Tottenham Hotspur fans continued to chant the term as well as singing, “We’ll sing what we want.” West Ham fans would respond with “Racists! Racists!” even though the chant wasn’t being used in a derogatory sense.

While no West Ham fan was arrested, a 51-year-old Tottenham Hotspur fan used the term yid and was arrested, only to be released on bail until November. Reports say the man did something during half time but the details haven’t been released.

Do you think the Tottenham Hotspur Yid Army is being racist in the usage of the word?
