‘American Horror Story: Coven’ Is ‘More Fun,’ Says Ryan Murphy

American Horror Story: Coven is much more fun than the second season of the award-winning series, says creator Ryan Murphy.

Although last season was entertaining in its own weird way, some viewers felt the episodes were a little difficult to sit through. Instead of putting fans through the wringer again, Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that the new season should definitely be more enjoyable.

According to the guy who helped bring the show to life, American Horror Story: Coven is easily the best season thus far. Ryan Murphy told the publication that he’s in love with the episodes.

“I love this season. It’s my favorite season we’ve done so far, largely because I love the comedy of it and I think it’s really scary,” he told EW.

Murphy continued, “[Coven] was designed to be scary, but more fun. I heard a lot last year, ‘Oh we love it, but it’s hard to sit through.’ So I wanted this year to be not so hard to sit through.”

The Huffington Post reports that acclaimed actress Jessica Lange will play the Supreme Witch in American Horror Story: Coven. Murphy said that Lange played a huge part in getting Kathy Bates to sign on for the project.

“Those two have been friends forever, and that’s actually how Kathy actually came into our lives. Jessica said, ‘You know, Kathy never misses an episode — you should meet with her,'” Murphy explained.

He added, “So she listened and then she said, ‘I need to think about it.’ And she called me literally 45 minutes later and said, ‘I’m in!’ I just spent the weekend with her and she says this part is her favorite part she’s ever played. She loves the costumes, she loves the arc, she loves the comedy.”
