Asian Stink Bugs Preparing For Wisconsin Invasion

Residents in Wisconsin are preparing for a massive invasion from the Asian stink bug. The stink bug has already invaded the coast lines and landlocked areas of the Eastern United States and are now moving inland.

While stink bugs exist in Wisconsin the Asian species is different. This particular species likes to travel with hundreds of its friends which cause a nuisance and a stinky situation to clean up.

University of Wisconsin bug expert Phil Pellitteri tells radio station WTMJ 620 that the bugs will arrive by the “bucket full.” Pellitteri says of the Wisconsin invasion:

“We’re going to have buckets full of these things coming in if they do what they’ve done in Maryland and Pennsylvania and that’s not going to be fun.”

“In the fall of the year, on the sunny side of the house, when they start congregating by the hundreds, that will get your attention,” Pellitteri said.

Attempting to remove the Asian stink bugs from your property could be a huge mistake. The bugs when they feel threatened fully live up to their name.

“They have glands on their body that when you disturb them, they give off a foul odor,” Pellitteri says.

How bad is the smell? Experts warn that killing or attempting to kill stink bugs can leave an odor behind that lasts for days.

The Asian Stink Bug has been reported in several Wisconsin areas and experts fear that the invasion will only worsen over the years.

Have you had any run-ins with the stink bug? How bad would you rate the insect on a scale of 1-10?
