Floyd Mayweather Vs Amir Khan Rumors Intensify

Rumors have intensified that Floyd Mayweather is set to fight Amir Khan in one of the riches fights ever.

Earlier today the Daily Mail reported that Khan and Mayweather would contest in a $200 million encounter on May 3 in Las Vegas. They even alleged that the announcement would be made in the next few days.

However, Leonard Ellerbe, an advisor to Mayweather, simply dismissed these claims as rumors.”

Ellerbe remarked, “Floyd just fought two weeks ago. Can’t he take a vacation before someone anoints the next guy.” He then added that everyone wants to fight Mayweather so that they can be in the “money pot.”

It’s believed that Khan would prove a stern test for Mayweather because of his speed. Stephen Espinosa, the head of sports for Showtime, commented, “Floyd has seen off the tough, heavy punchers. It remains to be seen what he will do against extreme speed and I like the Khan fight very much.”

It has also been alleged that Khan will now cancel his encounter with Devon Alexander in New York, which was set to take place on December 7, to allow himself a longer period of training and preparation for the Mayweather fight.

Khan, who is rumored to be training with Virgil Hunter for the next seven months, currently has a record of 28-3, with 19 knockouts, however his recent form has been very patchy.

The 26-year-old has lost two of his last four fights, against Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson, however his recent victories against Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz were hugely impressive.

Apparently London’s Wembley Stadium was discussed as a possible venue for the fight, however it was soon realised that it would generate more money in Las Vegas, because of Nevada’s various tax benefits.

Do you think Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather will fight? Could Khan’s speed defeat Mayweather?
