Chris Pine is seen as the legendary Tom Clancy character, Jack Ryan in the first poster from the film Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

A day after the untimely passing of the spy thriller author at the age of 66 was announced, life goes on when it comes to the new film which centers on a young Ryan.

Jack Ryan is one of the best known characters in modern literature thanks to several movie adaptations such as The Hunt For Red October, Clear And Present Danger, The Sum Of All Fears, and Patriot Games.

The fictional CIA officer has been portrayed by the likes of Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin, and now Chris Pine.

Clancy’s character was first introduced in the novel The Hunt For Red October, about a Lithuanian nuclear submarine commander on the Soviet Navy, who attempts to defect to the US during the cold war.

Baldwin was charged with playing Jack Ryan in the 1994 film version.

This time around Chris Pine (Unstoppable, Star Trek Into Darkness) is portraying the hero who goes to Moscow to uncover a cyber plot aimed at crippling the US economy.

In the wake of Clancy’s death, the movie becomes somewhat of a tribute to the prolific writer who created such a fascinating character that has been the focus of so many successful films.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is directed by Kenneth Branagh from a script by Spiderman’s David Koepp and Adam Cozad.

Tom Clancy has been hailed as the father of the international espionage genre, due to his long list of very popular books which are full of the most minute details and complicated plot lines.

The late author has 17 novels on the best-seller list with over 100 million copies in print.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit stars Chris Pine, Keira Knightley, Kenneth Branagh, Colm Fiore, and Kevin Costner. It opens in theaters in the US on Christmas Day. The film’s original name was Jack Ryan: Shadow One.
