Grandpa Of Gay Kid Disowns Mom Who Disowned Her Son

A gay teen named Chad seems like he has a pretty awesome grandpa, if a letter being passed around Facebook and other social media sites is accurate.

Chad’s grandpa is the supposed author of a letter to his daughter, Chad’s mother, which seems to be a reaction to the woman’s response after the teen came out. (We assume Chad is a teenager, as the grandpa makes reference to “raising” him following the alleged disowning.)

There is no firm indication the missive is real, but it is moving if the events described are genuine — which, on the internet, we never fully believe unless we see it.

In the letter addressed to “Christine,” the grandpa lambasts her for disowning her own child… then goes on to do the same based on her behavior.

He begins:

“I’m disappointed in you as a daughter. You’re correct that we have a ‘shame in the family,’ but mistaken about what it is… Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real ‘abomination’ here. A parent disowning her child is what goes ‘against nature.’ ”

Of course, the language used by Chad’s grandpa in the letter are things we associate with stereotypical anti-gay language — it almost seems a bit like the story is too much of a cliche to be true, but we also know people still use language like that in reference to gay teens.

The letter from Chad’s grandpa continues:

“The only intelligent thing I heard you saying in all of this was that ‘you didn’t raise your son to be gay.’ Of course you didn’t. He was born this way and didn’t choose it any more than he being left-handed. You, however, made a choice of being hurtful, narrow minded, and backward.”

It concludes:

“So while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I’ll take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as the [gays] put it) grandson to raise, and I don’t have time for a heartless B-word of a daughter.”

No one has stepped forward as Chad’s grandfather, and a similar bit of what later appeared to be media chicanery cropped up a few weeks ago with what later turned out to be a likely confabulation from a blogger about her son’s pink headband and a Walmart bullying incident.

However, if the letter from Chad’s grandpa is real, it’s definitely heartwarming.
