Gina Carano ‘Wonder Woman’ Rumors Heat Up

A new Wonder Woman short film has re-lit interest in bringing the classic comic book character to the big screen. And if a Wonder Woman really is going to get made, Gina Carano appears to be the woman for the job.

Carano has long been at the top of the list for a Wonder Woman movie. She’s strong, beautiful, and is starting to make a name for herself as an action star. Her latest movie, In The Blood, was recently picked up by Anchor Bay Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox.

The movie is only scheduled for a limited release so it’s going to be difficult to judge Carano’s box office appeal. And that, at the moment, seems to be the biggest problem with casting Carano as Wonder Woman.

Carano made the transition from MMA to Hollywood a few years ago and has already starred in Haywire,Fast and Furious 6, and the soon-to-be released In The Blood. She’s also lined up to star in a “female version” of The Expendables.

Producer Adi Shankar said: “I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of ‘The Expendables’ without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba.”

If Carano can prove her box-office draw in In The Blood or the new Shankar movie she could easily win the part of Wonder Woman.

It is, after all, a role that she really wants.

Carano said: That’s the ultimate superhero for a woman. No matter what, no matter who ends up being Wonder Woman someday, I just hope it’s something that is done correctly. I know it’s there and that it could definitely be done correctly. It’s just a matter of getting the right people and having the right vision come together. A director and producer and writer have to see the beauty in it and make it real.”

Of course, two things have to happen for Gina Carano to win the role of Wonder Woman. First, someone has to decide that they’re going to make the movie. Second, she has to beat out other actresses like Natalie Portman.

Portman said last month that a “female superhero” movie was definitely in development at Marvel and some of her fans are wondering if she’ll take the role.

Do you think Gina Carano would make a good Wonder Woman? What about Natalie Portman?
