‘World Of Warcraft’ Movie To Hit Theaters In 2015


The long-awaited World of Warcraft movie finally has a release date.

Directed by Moon mastermind Duncan Jones, the big-screen adaptation of Blizzard’s wildly successful MMORPG begins production early next year. The folks at Legendary Pictures recently announced that the flick will hit screens across the US on December 18, 2015.

According to The Verge, the World of Warcraft movie carries a production budget of approximately $100 million. Although Jones’ movies were ambitious, none of them had the scope of his latest endeavor. However, the filmmaker is definitely the right guy for the job.

In addition to Duncan Jones, Blood Diamond scribe Charles Leavitt was recently tapped to help out with the project. The writer is presently penning the script for the adaptation. Legendary Pictures will finance the flick while Universal Pictures will tackle distribution.

Coming Soon reports that the World of Warcraft movie is the first collaboration between Legendary and Universal. The production company recently parted ways with the folks at Warner Bros. after a very successful partnership. Legendary produced such notable films as 300 and the Dark Knight trilogy.

Although Jones and company are making progress on the movie, casting details are few and far between for the time being. The Inquisitr previously reported that 2 Guns star Paula Patton is in the running for the lead female role in the upcoming adaptation.

According to Deadline, Patton isn’t the only person up for a role in the World of Warcraft movie. In Bruges star Colin Farrell was recently approached for a major part in the flick. However, his involvement with the project isn’t official just yet.

The MMORPG launched back in 2004. The game has remained a favorite for armchair adventurers; the game reportedly boasted around seven million subscribers as of July 2013.
