Ballerina’s Knife Shoes Are En Pointe Perfection And Terrifying
Believe it or not ballet can be quite the brutal and outright violent sport. Dancers put their bodies through the type of pain that even Rugby, Football, and other contact sports players try to avoid. Recently artist Javier Perez decided to catch the grace, elegance, intensity, and even violence of ballet, and he did so with a pair of ballerina knife shoes.
Perez posted his video “En Puntas (‘On Points’) to video sharing site Vimeo and he accompanied the video with several amazing photographs.
The project features ballerina Amelie Segarra as she dances en pointe (on her toes) with huge menacing kitchen knives attached to her feet.
The dancing of the skilled ballerina is highlighted by a dark and empty theater.
As she dancing on top of a grand piano she struggled to maintain her composure while the knives violently stab into the top of the piano.
Listen to the video and you will hear Segarra as she randomly lets out screams of frustration while attempting to control her ballerina knife shoes.
While I am not personally a fan of ballet, the intensity and drive of the dancer and the artistic vision of Javier Perez left me riveted and wanting more.
