Woman Eaten By Starved Wolfdogs At Her Home

A Kentucky woman has been eaten by a herd of wolfdogs which she hoarded at her Fordsville Home. Patricia Ritz, an animal activist in her 60s, had more than 50 wolfdogs who she took in to care for.

Concerned neighbors called the police to report that they hadn’t seen Ritz in over a week. WFIE-TV reported that when authorities arrived at the property all they found was Ritz’s skull and jawbone.

During their visit, the authorities also found numerous malnourished and clearly hungry wolfdogs roaming around. Even though Ritz had a long history of animal activism she also had an equally long history of animal abuse convictions.

Gawker.com reported that Adopt-a-Husky, a welfare for animals group, said that in 1999 the woman had 184 dogs living with her at her home. When they were found by the animal rescue group, most of them needed to be put down as they were so neglected.

Tracy Ward from the animal rescue said: “I think it was just one lady that really wanted to save them all. When you don’t spay and neuter, they’re going to breed. It’s not going to be just one or two puppies, it’s going to be seven, nine, twelve.”

Adopt-a-Husky said that back in 1999 when the sick dogs were found at her home 159 of them needed to be put down. Ritz was allowed to keep the live dogs as long as she spayed and neutered them.

Even though she promised to do so, she didn’t stick to her word. In 2003 another 34 dogs in her possession needed to be put down due to neglect.

A representative from Adopt-a-Husky said about the abuse suffered by the wolfdogs: “After the sadness, there was relief. There absolutely was relief that this will never happen again.”
