‘The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug’ Trailer No. 2 Debuts [Video]

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has a brand new trailer. Slowly more images and additional footage for the anticipated second installment in Peter Jackson’s trilogy are coming out.

The adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien classic novel has been made into a three part series, following the format of its sequel The Lord Of The Rings.

Last December we were introduced to the characters in the story, some of them are familiar like Gandalf, played by Ian McKellen. Martin Freeman is Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit, who embarks in an adventure with the dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, portrayed by Richard Armitage.

“One of the greatest stories ever written,” said Sir Ian McKellen, on the TODAY show, where the trailer premiered.

Orlando Bloom and Ian McKellen were chosen to introduce the new trailer and discussed a little of what it was like to film The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug.

“You meet Luke Evans for the first time, as Bard.” McKellen adds as they talk about all the new characters who are introduced in the second part of the story.

Both McKellen and Bloom credit director Peter Jackson, for the success of the films and the talent of the ensemble he put together to bring to life one of the most beloved novels of all time.

One of the most thrilling parts of the 2 minute 24 seconds trailer, comes at the end, when we finally get to hear Smaug’s voice, which sounds chilling and is portrayed by British thesp Benedict Cumberbatch.

The much awaited character, sort of, makes a more pronounced entrance as Cumberbatch actually speaks a full sentence.

Peter Jackson’s first film passed the $1 billion mark in worldwide sales and the second part is expected to do even better than the original.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug opens in theaters on December 13.
