Bill O’Reilly On ‘Killing Jesus’: ‘Crucifixion Was Death By Suffocation’

Fox News talk show host Bill O’Reilly has penned another book, Killing Jesus, but what is the real evidence as it relates to the crucifixion?

The book is not without controversy, but that’s no surprise, we’re talking about one of the most controversial figures on television today here.

O’Reilly, who hosts an opinion show on Fox, the The O’Reilly Factor, used the four Gospels as part of his extensive research, as well as other biblical writings such as those of St. Paul in the Acts Of The Apostles.

The talk show host said he left out things he didn’t think happen as the Bible states, after all we are not to take the words literally.

Case and point, Jesus’ last words on the cross, “Father forgive them, they know not what they do.”

According to Bill O’Reilly, it would have been impossible for Jesus to utter the long sentence since crucifixion is basically death by suffocation.

“You die on a cross from being suffocated,” the Catholic O’Reilly says. “You can hardly breathe. We believe Jesus said that, but we don’t believe he said it on the cross because nobody could have heard it.

The Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy author says his book is not meant to be religious, so he doesn’t call Jesus the Son of God, it is a historical piece about what happened to the man known as the King of the Jews.

O’Reilly told 60 Minutes’ Norah O’Donnell that the most important thing he learned from writing Killing Jesus is that he became the best known man in history without any support. He had no PR expert, no infrastructure, no government behind him, he was his own man.

“I just want to write about important things in a very entertaining way,” Bill O’Reilly says of Killing Jesus. “That’s the formula.”
