James Spader Already Preparing For His Role In ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’

Although filming on the sequel is still a ways off, James Spader recently revealed that he’s already started preparing for his role as the villain in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Fans of Marvel’s big-screen endeavors were more than a little shocked when the Blacklist star was recently tapped to play Ultron in the upcoming sequel. In order to get ready for the part, Spader revealed that he’s already participated in a little prep work.

According to the folks at Coming Soon, James Spader has dropped some hints about the progress Whedon and company are making on Avengers: Age of Ultron. The actor said the crew recently took quite a few pictures of his head and body in order to get the character just right.

“I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it. And yes, actually, just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I’m gonna fit in this Ultron character!” Spader told The Inquirer.

The former Boston Legal star said that working on Avengers: Age of Ultron is filling him full of nostalgia. Although he didn’t own very many comic books as a kid, the actor spent quite a bit of time thumbing through his friend’s collection.

“When I was a kid my best friend had trunks of comics and I didn’t have any so I used to love going for sleepovers at his house. Also I have three sons and two of them have a great interest in comics so they’re excited I’m playing the role,” he explained to The Independent.

Director Joss Whedon said during an interview earlier this month that Spader was the first and only choice to tackle the role of Ultron in The Avengers 2. Not surprisingly, the filmmaker is incredibly excited about the actor’s involvement with the sequel.

“Spader was my first and only choice. He’s got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he’s also very human and humorous. Ultron is not HAL. Spader can play all of the levels. He’s the guy to break the Avengers into pieces,” the director told Marvel.
