‘Watch Dogs’ Clocks In At 30 Frames Per Second On Xbox One, PS4

If you thought Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs would fully explore the capabilities of next-generation consoles, then it’s time to start adjusting your expectations accordingly.

When the open-world adventure finally arrives on Xbox One and Playstation 4, the game will clock in at 30 frames per second. Instead of pushing the new hardware to its breaking point right out of the box, the developers said they wanted to give players the smoothest gameplay possible.

Creative director Jonathan Morin recently discussed the Watch Dogs frame rate with the folks at VideoGamer. According to Morin, Ubisoft wants to make absolutely sure that everything works incredibly well when gamers finally get to dive into the game’s high-tech world.

He explained to the website:

“Right now the frame rate we’re focussing on [is] a steady 30 [FPS]. There’s always a balance, especially for open world, between the simulation and the rest. I think for where we are, the most important thing is the steadiness and [ensuring] that it’s always capped the same so when you play it it feels right.”

Although Morin was quick to discuss the game’s framerate at the recent Eurogamer Expo, he stopped short of dropping any details about the resolution. As of this writing, it’s unknown if the game runs at 720p or 1080p. More info will likely bubble up as the game’s release date draws closer.

In Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs, players assume the role of a guy with the ability to hack into the Chicago’s electrical grid. In addition to toying with traffic lights and emergency services, our hero can also hack into the private lives of citizens around the city.

The open-world saga drops for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC, and Xbox One on November 22. Playstation 4 owners can snag their copy of the game on November 29.
