Tiger Woods Is Player Of The Year For 11th Time

Tiger Woods is the PGA Tour player of the year for the 11th time of his career. Woods claimed the title after five big wins and claim to the world’s No. 1 ranking.

The win marks the third time that Woods has won the Jack Nicklaus award despite failing to win a major championship.

While Tiger Woods didn’t claim a grand slam title he did win two World Golf Championships and The Players Championship. No other golfer won more than two major matches this season.

Woods also claimed the Vardon Trophy for lowest scoring average and the PGA Tour money title.

During a conference on Friday Tiger Woods proclaimed:

“It’s been an incredible year to have won five times, two of those World Golf Championships and one Players. It’s been just a fantastic year all around. It’s also an incredible feeling to be voted by your peers, and to have that type of respect is something that’s very humbling.”

Under PGA rules the league does not reveal the percentage of votes received or the second place finisher.

Woods was on the ballot with British Open champion Phil Mickelson, Masters champion Adam Scott, FedEx Cup champion Henrik Stenson and Matt Kuchar.

While Woods claimed player of the year honors there was one award he couldn’t grab, Steve Stricker beat out the famed golfer for the Byron Nelson Award.

Tiger Woods claimed player of the year honors but he wasn’t the weeks only big winner, rookie Jordan Spieth grabbed the rookie of the year award. While Spieth started with no status on any tour this year he went on to win the John Deer Classic and reached the Tour Championship. Spieth was also chosen for the Presidents Cup and finished 10th on the money list with $4 million earned. Spieth will be the youngest American to play in the Presidents Cup when he joins his fellow golfers in Ohio this week.

Tiger Woods has come a long way since his extra-marital affairs were revealed in 2009, although he still needs to prove that he can once again perform in clutch moments during grand slam tournaments.
