Itsmy.com Gives Users Control Over Ads

Mobile social network itsmy.com is giving their user’s control over the advertising they see.

The free, ad-supported itsmy.com offers users a mobile homepage with a unique mobile web address, where, MySpace style they can ad widgets and content. Until now users have not had a choice of advertising they were shown, but can now select their favorites from 15 different advertising channels, including ads for fashion, sports, entertainment and education.

Itsmy.com is spinning the idea as “a win-win situation for users and advertisers: Users only get advertising which is really relevant to them and does not bother or bore them…[and] advertisers are able to target exactly those people who are really interested and not just fit in a target group.”

It idea of empowering users to select advertising categories makes complete sense, even if the entire product itself doesn’t to me, but I don’t get the appeal of MySpace either. Kiddies like this stuff….or something like that :-)
