Missing Toddler’s Mom, Angry Mob Confront Girl’s Father Outside Court

A missing toddler’s mom whose daughter disappeared while in the custody of her father confronted the young man in front of a Maine courtroom yesterday — angrily demanding he come clean on the girl’s presumed death.

Trista Reynolds is the mother of missing toddler Ayla, and the mom has not seen her little girl since December of 2011. At the time Ayla went missing, she was in the custody of her father, Justin DiPietro.

The missing toddler’s mom came forward with new information she believes links DiPietro to the little girl’s disappearance — and on Wednesday, when he appeared in court to face a separate charge, she was waiting.

Alongside a large group of supporters, Reynolds confronted DiPietro, demanding to know what happened to Ayla. ABC reports that upon seeing the missing toddler’s mom and her group, he fled:

“DiPietro and his court-appointed attorney ducked into the Portland police station where the crowd surrounded them and called him names, including ‘murderer,’ and shouted ‘Where’s Ayla?’… DiPietro looked away and stayed composed until he eventually took off running. Reynolds and others gave chase before giving up.”

Trista Reynolds says police shared with her some details of what may have been evidence found in DiPietro’s home, but that she was unable to view all of the details due to their implications.

CNN spoke with Reynolds, and explains:

“In the basement, where Ayla’s father, Justin DiPietro, slept, Reynolds says police allegedly found more of Ayla’s blood and on the walls, the floor, in a ‘fist-sized stain’ on the mattress and sheets, on the tongue of DiPietro’s sneakers and on a wood pallet leaning against a wall.”

The missing toddler’s mother says she publicly disclosed the details given to her by police in hopes that DiPietro, his girlfriend, or his sister — all of whom are believed to have been in the home when Ayla vanished — will come forward or be questioned by police as to the young girl’s whereabouts.
