Lily Allen Says ‘Empowering’ New Album ‘Has Feminist Vibes’

Lily Allen, who recently announced that she is returning to music, gave fans a hint about what they can expect from her upcoming studio album.

In an interview with Hello! magazine, the 28-year-old said that the new album will feature some of the characteristics of her previous records.

“It’s not an earnest, ‘I’m a mum’, kind of record,” she said. “It’s empowering. There’s some feminist vibes going on. It’s the same old me with a bit of swearing going on. Good choruses, key changes here and there – that’s it.”

Allen also said it’s been difficult balancing her recording career with being a mother, and that it sometimes interferes with her spending time with her daughters.

“It’s hard. I’m constantly trying to get the balance right. I always just want to get home to put my little girls to bed. It doesn’t always happen but I’m very blessed to be able to do what I do,” she said. “I need to go on holidays before the next couple of years of work kick in. I need to spend time with my girlies and my husband and get my head down. It’s exciting, but I’m still nervous.”

Lily Allen first became pregnant in 2007 when she was dating Ed Simons of the Chemical Brothers. She suffered a miscarriage in January 2008, and ended her relationship with Simons shortly afterward. She began dating Sam Cooper, a builder and decorator, in July 2009, and announced that she was expecting their first child in August 2010. Six months into her pregnancy, Allen contracted a viral infection that resulted in a stillbirth.

Allen and Cooper became engaged in December 2010, and married on June 11, 2011. She gave birth to their first daughter, Ethel Mary, on November 25. In July 2012, she confirmed that she was expecting again. She gave birth to daughter Marnie Rose on January 8, 2013.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Lily Allen announced that she was “coming back” on Twitter last month. She has been working on her third studio album since June 2012, but said she wouldn’t be releasing any new music until next spring.
