Ellen Pompeo Slams Emmys, Calls Them ‘Dated’ And Lacking ‘Diversity’


Ellen Pompeo was not a fan of Sunday’s Emmys telecast, an awards ceremony that the actress called “dated” and lacking in diversity.

Talking about the ceremony the Grey’s Anatomy star said she “was really disappointed.”

In an interview on Monday Pompeo said:

“I didn’t see any diversity in the Emmys at all. The Emmys felt so dated to me.”

Ellen added:

“… That dance number was embarrassing. Did you see one person of color in that dance number?”

When asked about her own show Pompeo said she loved its diversity and its creative episodes:

“I’m extremely proud of our very, very diverse cast which represents the world that I walk around in every day.”

Fans of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy can catch the season 10 premiere on Thursday.

While the Emmys are not typically the most exciting awards show on television this years hold Neil Patrick Harris most definitely entertained the audience with a hilarious opening monologue that welcomed Conan O’Brien, Jane Lynch, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and others to the stage.

Ellen Pompeo isn’t the only person to attack diversity at the Emmys, Diahann Carroll also pointed out that too much time had passed since an African American woman was nominated for best actress in a Drama.
