Rihanna’s Monkey Selfie Photo Leads To Arrest Of Thailand Vendors

A Rihanna monkey selfie photo has lead to the arrest of two Thailand vendors.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Rihanna’s marijuana smoking was alleged by Katy Perry.

But Rihanna’s visit to Thailand featured a different type of monkey business. During Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour, the singer stopped to visit the island of Phuket. While roaming the beaches two Thai vendors brought out a protected primate called the loris. So of course this led to a Rihanna primate photo op. The Rihanna selfie was bundled with the tweet saying, “Look who was talkin dirty to me!” After all, monkey see…

But unfortunately for those Thai vendors bringing protected animals out for photo opportunities with tourist is against the law. The slow moving loris as well as the elephants, orangutans and other animals are on the protected list. For setting up the Rihanna monkey photos, the 20 year old man and 16 year old boy could face charges of “possession of protected animals,” which carries a penalty of up to four years in prison and a $1,300 fine.

Thailand authorities have tried to crack down on the problem of vendors exploiting wildlife for years. But the Rihanna selfie with the monkey was one of the few times they had definite evidence:

“It’s like a cat-and-mouse game. But this time it’s bigger because a celebrity like Rihanna posted the picture, and there were more than 200,000 ‘likes’ from around the world.”

Do you think it’s fair the pair is paying such a high price for the Rihanna monkey photo when the singer gets off scott free for breaking the law?
