Oprah’s nervous breakdown was real, the TV show host recently confirmed.
Probably the most famous and successful TV show host of our time, Oprah has given hope to people worldwide. However, the queen of daytime TV, despite having her own almost equally successful magazine, also has her flaws. Unlike most celebrities, however, Oprah isn’t afraid to admit to her flaws and issues.
When filming the critically acclaimed thriller The Butler, Oprah Winfrey found the strain of filming the movie and maintaining her “struggling network” to be too much. She had started exhibiting signs of a nervous breakdown, being unable to calm down.
Those signs turned out to be very real, Oprah discovered, when she was interviewing Jason Russell after his own nervous breakdown where he was seen naked in the streets of San Diego. The symptoms he described felt very familiar to her and she realized she had been through the same thing.
Oprah’s nervous breakdown had finally struck her as the reason she felt the way she had:
“In the beginning, it was just sort of speeding and a kind of numbness and going from one thing to the next thing to the next thing. I will tell you when I realized that I thought, ‘All right, if I don’t calm down I’m gonna be in serious trouble.’ I was in the middle of doing voiceovers, you know? And I remember closing my eyes in between each page because looking at the page and the words at the same time was too much stimulation for my brain.”

It wasn’t until a couple of weeks later, when interviewing Fergie, that Oprah Winfrey finally felt ready to take control again. Her nervous breakdown had finally subsided, but it wasn’t until her interview with the Kony 2012 director that she realized what was wrong.
Oprah referred to Jason Russell’s incident in saying that she wasn’t about to go that far, but she just needed to calm down, and she wants to make that clear. Oprah has confirmed her nervous breakdown.
