Eagles Up-Tempo Offense Outpaced By Opponents

The Philadelphia Eagles new up-tempo offense was supposed to be so fast no team would run more plays this season. The Chiefs and the Chargers must not have received the message. Over the last two games, Philadelphia has been outpace by its opponents 156 plays to 121.

To be fair, the Eagles were turning the ball over so much against the Chiefs that the offense wasn’t on the field long enough to run plays. Michael Vick committed three costly turnovers, one to end the game.

The Chargers just used the Eagles offense against them. San Diego ran over 70 plays while Philadelphia struggled to run more than 50. At least the Eagles had week one.

When the Eagles won their season opener against the Washington Redskins, Chip Kelly’s crew ran 56 plays in the first half! Everything went exactly as planned.

The last two weeks have been the complete opposite. The outpaced Eagles were beat 33-30 by the Chargers and 26-16 by the Chiefs. They stand at 1-2 on the season and don’t look like a playoff team.

Michael Vick looks rejuvenated, but he also looks one hit away from being taken off the field on a stretcher. In both games, he left after big hits in the fourth quarter. After the Chiefs game, he said he rolled both ankles but would have stayed in if the Eagles got the ball back.

If the Eagles want to win games, they need to play like they did week one. Every facet of their game looked good. The offense was faster then the Redskins defense could handle, and their own defense dominated RG3 and Alfred Morris.

Next up on Philadelphia’s schedule is the Denver Broncos. The team that every other team wants to be. The good news for Chip Kelly is they have a few extra days to prepare having played Kansas City on Thursday.

Do you think the Eagles up-tempo offense will bounce back, or did the Chargers and Chiefs show the rest of the NFL how to stop it?
