Burglar Charges Phone At Crime Scene, Leaves It: Guess What Happened Next

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the “burglar charges phone at crime scene” story out of Arkansas, it’s that human beings are really, really consumed by their communication devices.

(And a little stupid.)

Michael Lee Lonewolf — a 44-year-old man in Fort Smith, Arkansas — allegedly broke in to an area business and realized in the midst of ripping the place off that his cellphone needed a drink.

No prob. There were plenty of outlets around, so he decided to use one as he plundered Sue White Homes of computer equipment, a safe, and a 2004 Chevrolet truck.

It was the perfect crime and the perfect getaway until police officers discovered his phone still at the scene of the crime, presumably with a full charge.

Full enough for Fort Smith police officers to rummage through it anyway, reading his texts, sifting through his pictures, and navigating effortlessly to the Michael Lee Lonewolf Facebook profile.

The evidence drew law enforcement officers to a campground where Lonewolf and all the goodies were waiting for them.

This possible future Scooby-Doo villain is currently being held at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center on $12,000 bond.

(Hat tip to 5NEWS for the story.)

We’re pretty sure which Facebook profile is our perpetrator’s, but to play it safe, we’ll let you look that up and decide for yourself. In case you’d like to get a glimpse of the mugshot, though, here you go:

If convicted, Lonewolf need not feel alone in his stupidity. Recent dumb criminal cases we’ve covered other than the “burglar charges phone” case have included an Oregon gun store robber who decided to attempt the robbery with a baseball bat.

There was also this Michigan fraud suspect, who used a stolen credit card to pay for his police fingerprints.

It takes all kinds, we suppose.

Where do you think the “burglar charges phone” case ranks in the annals of stupid crime, and what would be a fitting punishment?
