Kevin Trudeau Jailed For Contempt

Kevin Trudeau was jailed for contempt. The “infomercial king” reportedly went on an extravagant spending spree despite a court ordered asset freeze. Trudeau will remain in federal custody.

The asset freeze limits Trudeau’s purchases to “ordinary and necessary living expenses.” Despite the freeze, he transferred close to $20,000 to a tax attorney and used his debit card for several large purchases.

As reported by ABC News, the purchases include $1057 for meat, $920 for cigars, $780 for groceries, $894 for liquor, and $359 for two haircuts.

Kevin Trudeau says he was not aware the purchases were a violation of the freeze. He says he ran out of cash, as he never received his monthly stipend.

Defense attorney Thomas Kirsch asked for time to prove his client was cooperating. However, US District Court Judge Robert Gettleman denied the request.

Trudeau was found in contempt for violating the asset freeze. He was led from the courtroom by US Marshals.

He is currently being held in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.

The asset freeze stems from a $37.6 million sanction. Trudeau was found guilty of deceptive marketing. He allegedly made false claims about products in his infomercials.

He is specifically accused of promoting his book, “The Weight-Loss Cure ‘They’ Don’t Want You To Know About,” as an “easy” way to lose weight.

Trudeau and his attorneys claim he cannot afford the $36 million sanction.

Earlier this year, Gettleman found evidence that Trudeau continues to live quite well. He reportedly employs several expensive attorneys, a butler, and two personal chefs. He also drives a Bentley worth nearly $350,000.

As reported by Sun Times, Trudeau’s spending behavior is in stark contrast to his claims of poverty. His most recent spending spree suggests he was deceptive about his finances.

Kevin Trudeau and his attorneys must now prove that he is indeed cooperating with the court order.
