Former Heavyweight Boxing Champion Ken Norton Dead At 70


Former heavyweight boxing champ Ken Norton has died. The former heavyweight champion who fought in 3 classic fights against Muhammad Ali was 70-years-old.

Norton was suffering through several years of health issues that led to a series of strokes.

In a non-title fight in 1974 Ken Norton broke Ali’s jaw while defeating his opponent in the process. Ali would go on to win the next two fights.

In 1976 the men competed in one of boxings most classic bouts at Yankee Stadium.

In 1978 Norton won the WBC Heavyweight title when reigning champion Leon Spinks refused to fight.

Several months after he claimed the heavyweight title Ken Norton lost to Larry Holmes.

Norton began his illustrious professional boxing career after becoming a 3 time champion in the US Marine Corps in the mid to late 60s.

According to the boxer’s son Ken Norton spent his last days in a hospice.

The scrappy days of boxing have long disappeared and bouts these days are contrived and wrought with more drama outside of the ring than inside.
