Frank Ocean Admits He Used To Sell Crack

Frank Ocean recently revealed that he used to sell cocaine and crack before he got famous.

In an interview with Oyster magazine, Ocean — whose real name is Christopher Francis Ocean — confessed that he was a drug dealer in high school

“I was a thug,” Ocean said. “I sold a lot of cocaine and crack… All the time.”

Ocean also said that he didn’t have anyone to guide him when he was growing up.

“As a young person I didn’t have, for lack of a better word, I didn’t have a Joe Jackson in my family,” he said. “I didn’t even have a parent who encouraged what I did in that way.”

Last year, Ocean revealed that his father wanted to sue him for $1 million. He wrote on Twitter, “Like I owe him back child support. Weak individual bought me a swiss knife at 6 yrs old then dipped on me.” In another tweet, he mentioned that he just found out his “absent father” was cyberstalking him.

However, the 25-year-old wasn’t looking for sympathy by opening up about his drug dealing past.

“Don’t bring out the string section. It’s not really sad. My attitude was pure,” he said. “I love to make music, and I love to write. It was writing first. I love to write and express myself in that medium, so that was the pure part – just the love of doing something.”

Frank Ocean announced his international “California Love” tour in May. The tour began in Munich on June 25.

In July, the “Thinking About You” singer was forced to cancel his Australian tour after tearing a vocal cord on opening night. Tour promoter Live Nation explained that Ocean “received medical advice that he must rest his voice.” He was also scheduled to perform at the OVO Fest on August 4. The first performance was canceled, and James Blake was brought in as a replacement the second night.
