Grandmother Sues McDonald’s For Infant Injuries

A Texas grandmother sued McDonald’s for injuries to an infant.

Evelina Reuss took her granddaughter to McDonald’s for fast food and good times last July, but things turned ugly when something went wrong at the gaming station where console games are usually set up for the public’s enjoyment. She went to retrieve 3-year-old Piper Reuss and found her with her toes dangling off the floor and her face a color indicating she was being suffocated at one of the black arms of said gaming station. The infant couldn’t breathe, and the more she and others tried to move her, the worse it got.

One of the black controller cords had somehow wrapped around Piper Reuss’ neck and she was literally choking to death in public. Eventually an employee came along and handed a pair of scissors to one of the customers, who proceeded to cut the cord, saving the infant’s life. The McDonald’s employee simply went back to work, and that horrified the child’s grandmother even more.

The grandmother is suing McDonald’s because she feels that obviously someone should have been watching, and when an employee finally did get involved, they only performed a small part of what saved little Piper Reuss. They hadn’t called emergency services or anything beyond handing a pair of scissors to a customer. Evelina Reuss drove her granddaughter to the hospital herself, and has contacted attorney Jason Gibson.

Jason Gibson said of the situation leading to the grandmother suing McDonald’s, “It’s their responsibility and it’s their duty. They’re providing the play area. They need to take the steps to make sure it’s a safe environment for the kids. In this case, that didn’t happen.”

Evelina Reuss told local news station KMOV St. Louis it really shook her up, and she could have lost her infant granddaughter that day. The horrified grandmother is suing McDonald’s for negligence which almost led to the death of Piper Reuss.
