Joe Biden’s Niece Arrested After Run-In With NYPD

Joe Biden’s niece has been taken into custody after finding herself on the wrong side of the law in New York City.

So far, all reports are pretty light on the details. All we really know is that Biden’s niece, Caroline, was arrested in New York City, and that she was accused of resisting arrest among a handful of other charges. The arrest reportedly came after she got into a heated row with a roommate, but things really got interesting when Caroline reportedly swung at an NYPD officer.

Police say that they responded to reports of an altercation at Caroline Biden’s Tribeca apartment on Tuesday morning and seem to imply that she actually took a swing at a cop on purpose, not by accident.

She is also being charged with obstructing governmental administration and harassmen, and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon. The Vice President’s office refused to comment at this time.

This actually isn’t the first time the 26-year-old has found herself on the wrong side of the tracks either. Gothamist reminds that Caroline was detained in Delaware in 2009 after a “misunderstanding” about an Amtrak train fare.

She wasn’t actually arrested or charged, and an Amtrak spokeswoman at the time refused to specify what the “misunderstanding” entailed. Caroline Biden was young and a Georgetown student at the time, so we’re guessing that “misunderstanding” means “jumped the turn-style,” but that’s pure speculation.

And just in case you’re curious about the family connection, Caroline Biden is Joe’s niece by his brother, James Biden Sr.

CORRECTION: Newer reports suggest that Caroline Biden was taken into custody, not arrested. Tomato, to-mah-to, I know, but these little details are important.
