Alec Baldwin To End ‘Here’s The Thing’ Podcast
Alec Baldwin is ending his Here’s the Thing podcast on WNYC after two seasons.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin wanted to go forward with the podcast, but there wasn’t enough funding to allow the public radio program to continue.
The first episode of Here’s the Thing was released on October 24, 2011. The program consists of a series of interviews with public figures, including lawmakers and artists. The first episode featured Michael Douglas; since then, Baldwin has interviewed David Letterman, Chris Rock, Lorne Michaels, Stacy Keach, Judd Apatow, and more. The interviews vary in length, and can last up to an hour or more.
In addition to Here’s the Thing, Alec Baldwin is also the host of The New York Philharmonic This Week, the New York Philharmonic’s two-hour nationally broadcast radio series. The first broadcast aired on October 5, 1930, and Baldwin became the host on January 12, 2009. He also donated $1 million to the Philharmonic, where he is a member of the board, last July.
The cancellation of Here’s the Thing comes a week after MSNBC confirmed that the 55-year-old will be hosting the new primetime talk show Up Late with Alec Baldwin. The program will replace MSNBC’s Lockup in the Friday at 10 pm time slot.
“After two seasons of my WNYC podcast, I’ve developed a fondness for hosting a show that involved talking with smart, talented, and engaging people in every imaginable field,” Baldwin said in a news release from MNSBC last Thursday. “I’m grateful to MSNBC for helping me bring a similar show to television.”
While an exact date has yet to be announced, Lauren Skowronski, vice president of media relations at MSNBC, wrote on Twitter that Up Late will start airing in October.
Alec Baldwin has a long-standing relationship with the NBC family. He starred as Jack Donaughy on 30 Rock from October 2009 to January 2013, and holds the record for most times hosting Saturday Night Live with 16 appearances.
