‘G.I. Joe 3’ Lands ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Writer

G.I. Joe 3 is getting a little help from busy screenwriter Evan Daugherty.

The folks at Paramount Pictures have hired the Snow White and the Huntsman scribe to pen the script for the next installment of the franchise. Director Jon M. Chu is reportedly returning to helm the follow-up. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce the adventure.

Although the first G.I. Joe movie wasn’t exactly a hit with fans, the studio attempted to correct a few problems with G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Although the film received a number of terrible reviews upon its release, the flick still made approximately $122 million in North America alone.

The film’s $371 million gross, combined with its healthy run on DVD and Blu-ray, prompted the studio to get the ball rolling on G.I. Joe 3. The studio could possibly have the project in the can and ready to roll by 2015.

Evan Daugherty has been a very busy guy in recent months. Not only did he pen Snow White and the Huntsman as a spec script, he also helped out with producer Michael Bay and director Louis Leterrier’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle reboot.

The screenwriter also penned Summit Entertainment’s adaptation of author Veronica Roth’s young adult novel Divergent. The movie, which stars The Secret Life of the American Teenager alum Shailene Woodley, is scheduled to hit theaters in the US early next year.

Daugherty provided the script for Daredevil director Mark Steven Johnson’s 2013 thriller Killing Season. John Travolta and The Family star Robert De Niro tackled the lead roles in the flick. Judging from his recent output, the writer is definitely qualified to write G.I. Joe 3.

Vibe reported earlier this year that Fast and Furious 7 star Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis would return for the next sequel. Although the characters are slated to come back for another go-around, story details are practically non-existent for the moment.

Do you think Evan Daugherty is the right guy to pen the script for G.I. Joe 3?
