Julia Goldani Telles: ‘Bunheads’ Star Finds New Life Thanks To Showtime Series

Julia Goldani Telles has found that there’s life after Bunheads.

The star of the short-lived but cult favorite ABC Family series has now signed on to star in the Showtime drama pilot The Affair. The show is about Noah, a New Yorker who spends the summer on Long Island with his family and later has an affair with a married woman who works at a waffle house.

The show has quite an impressive cast. In addition to Julia Goldani Telles, it also stars Dominic West (The Wire), Maura Tierney (ER), Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek), and Ruth Wilson (Luther).

Telles will play Whitney, the 16-year-old daughter of Noah and his wife Helen.

The show has a strong pedigree behind it. The pilot was written by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi, who also wrote In Treatment, and they will executive produce the show along with Mark Mylod of Shameless.

Julia Goldani Telles was a television newcomer when she took the role of Sasha Torres in Bunheads, but earned acclaim for the role as the show gained a faithful following. Though her acting experience was light, Telles seemed well-suited for the role of a young dancer. She started dancing in her native Brazil when she was 5, and later trained professionally at the School of American Ballet.

An injury at age 15 forced Telles to take a break from ballet, and during that time she took up a drama course. Telles’ agent thought Bunheads would fit well for the young actress because of the emphasis on dancing.

Despite critical acclaim, there were conflicting reports on whether the show would continue after its first season ended in February. In July 22, ABC Family officially announced that it would cancel the series.

Fans of Julia Goldani Telles may have to wait a bit longer to see her on television again, however. Showtime has not yet announced the status of The Affair and when it may air on television.
