Steelers’ Le’Veon Bell Out At Least One Month With Lisfranc Sprain

Pittsburgh Steelers’ running back Le’Veon Bell will miss at least one month for the steel curtain with a lisfranc sprain.

Bell was projected to be the Steelers’ starting running back before the season began. He was selected by Pittsburgh in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Steelers have struggled to find a consistent running back since Jerome Bettis retired.

Now coach Mike Tomlin will have to ride Isaac Redman longer than expected. Not good news for a Steelers team that needs a spark after losing to Tennessee in week one.

Publicly Le’Veon Bell and Tomlin are staying optimistic. In reality the Steelers expect bell to miss at least one month, but probably more time. According to reports out of Pittsburgh, Bell is only jogging right now. He has not been able to run or cut.

Bell sprained his lisfranc in the second game of the preseason. His injury does not require surgery, just time to heal.

During his weekly press conference Mike Tomlin did not address Bell’s rehab.

Isaac Redman will now have a chance to prove his worth. He has been with Pittsburgh since 2010 but has never rushed for more than 500 yards in a season. In 2012 he emerged as a threat in the passing game. However, he regressed as a runner and finished the season averaging 3.7 yards a carry.

The Steelers were hoping Le’Veon Bell could be their workhorse in the backfield. An every down back who could take pressure off Ben Roethlisberger to be perfect.

Here is a draft video of Bell to show what Pittsburgh sees in him:

Le’Veon Bell’s lisfranc sprain is definitely a setback for the Steelers. He will not make the immediate impact the team was hoping for.

The good news for the Steelers is that every team in the AFC North lost week one. The division does’t look like one of the better ones in the NFL this year. If the Steelers can tread water until Bell’s return they have just a good a shot as making the playoffs as anyone.
