‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5’ Delayed: ‘Lone Ranger’ Flop Made Disney Cautious

Johnny Depp is one of the biggest box office draws in Hollywood, but even Jack Sparrow falters every once in awhile. Disney recently decided to postpone Pirates of the Caribbean 5, and some people suspect that it might have to do with the major flop of The Lone Ranger.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 was scheduled to be released on July 10, 2015, but Disney has removed the movie from its distribution schedule. Many are speculating that Disney plans on releasing the movie in the summer of 2016.

TheInquisitr noted yesterday that the summer of 2015 is going to be filled with blockbusters. The new Star Wars movie, the new Avengers movie, and the new Jurassic Park movie will all hit theaters next year. The summer of 2015 will also see Ant Man and a sequel to Independence Day hit the silver screen.

With the epic Lone Ranger flop hanging over their heads, Disney may have been a little hesitant to put a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie up against such stiff competition.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer admitted to The Hollywood Reporter recently that “everybody’s more cautious” about making a big budget movie after The Lone Ranger, a sure-fire box office hit, flopped at the box office.

Still, Bruckheimer said that the main reason for the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 delay is script problems.

Bruckheimer said: “We have an outline everyone loves but the script is not done. We want a script that everyone’s signed off on and a budget that everyone’s signed off on.”
