Colorado Recall: Gun Owners Will Be Happy

The Colorado recall is good news for gun owners. The removal of Senator John Morse and Senator Angel Giron is confirmed with 100 percent of votes counted. Both senators fought for strict gun control.

Morse and Giron both voted for control measures, including universal background checks. They also supported banning large-capacity ammunition magazines.

As reported by USA Today, Morse represented Colorado Springs and Giron represented the Pueblo region. Their votes in favor of gun control led to a heated debate nationwide.

The campaign for the Colorado recall gained the attention of the National Rifle Association and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The NRA donated an estimated $500,000 to support the recall. Their efforts included advertisements on television and radio, phone banks, and the mass mailing of flyers.

Mayor Bloomberg, a strong supporter of gun control, donated close to $350,000 to support opponents of the recall.

According to the El Paso County Clerk’s office, the taxpayers will contribute close to $190,000.

The Colorado recall appeared on Tuesday’s ballot. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, 56 percent voted to recall Giron and 50.9 percent voted to recall Morse.

The recall is a victory for gun owners. Bernie Herpin, who will replace Morse, explains that “this election was about defending the constitution.” He discussed the preservation of rights, and the right to personal defense.

Tim Knight, with the Basic Freedom Defense Fund, calls the recall a victory for Colorado residents.

As reported by the Denver Post, Morse blames low voter turnout. He believes many of his supporters simply did not vote.

Colorado democrats have accused pro-gun activists of voter suppression. Mail-in ballots were not allowed in this election. Therefore, voters had to make time to travel to poll locations.

As reported by Huffington Post, rumors of “extreme voter intimidation” persisted throughout the campaign.

Despite any controversy, the Colorado recall is good news for gun owners. The recall has brought attention to the fact that elected officials can be removed by the voters. It is certainly difficult and expensive. However, it is possible.
