Anthony Weiner Ends Mayoral Campaign With The Finger [Photo]

Anthony Weiner ended his bid for New York Mayor with a one-finger “salute” Tuesday night.

The scandal-ridden pol came in dead, dead last, which was pretty much a mere fulfillment of expectations. His wife wasn’t present as he made his concession speech, nor did he mention her. The woman who effectively brought his campaign to a screeching halt (the infamous Sydney Leathers) showed up because “felt she belonged there,” and Weiner’s final appearance in the public eye was capped off with the middle finger being flashed to a reporter from the other side of a car window.

NPR notes accurately that the conclusion of the Weiner story is the biggest attached to the New York mayoral race, but, just in case you were curious about how that’s working out, here are a few details:

Mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio is probably going to be the Democratic nominee, having likely hit the 40 percent line which would avoid a run-off with William Thompson. About 98 percent of precincts have reported that de Blasio boasts 40.19 percent of the vote to Thompson’s 26.04 percent.

If de Blasio does win, he’ll face Republican Joe Lhota in November.

But Weiner, who has slowly unraveled along with his campaign since his sexting scandal 2.0 made headlines, is out for good. As CNN notes, “the now-immortalized final moment of Anthony Weiner’s failed New York mayoral campaign was the candidate’s middle finger.”
