Grand Theft Auto Online Creator Says This Is ‘Just The Beginning’

Grand Theft Auto Online has been designed to grow in size and ambition, according to Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies.

In an interview with Game Informer, Benzies revealed that his company wants “to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we’ve done or are going to do then let the player freely move between them.”

Leslie says Grand Theft Auto Online is “just the beginning” and that developers for the company have been working on ideas for the project over the last 11 years.

Benzies adds:

“Grand Theft Auto Online has been in our minds for a long time – since we started on Grand Theft Auto 3… We’ve always wanted to create a world with the complexity of a single-player Grand Theft Auto game with the addition of real players. We wanted a world where people could spend years without getting bored of playing the same content over and over… I think we’ve managed to achieve something very close to our dream.”

The new platform was revealed in August, and Rockstar announced that the game will debut two weeks after the September 17 release of Grand Theft Auto V.

The game developer is “planning new locations all the time,” and Benzies says, “We’ve set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we’ve got… We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever. Whether we do that or not… But we’ve got a bunch of old stuff that we’re toying with using.”

Players to GTA Online will be able to expand their fleet of cars and manage them. The system also allows for character creation to bring a unique look and feel to every gamers avatar.

In the meantime, GTA 5 releases on September 17 on Xbox 360 and PS3 in both the US and Europe. Japanese buyers will receive access to GTA 5 on October 10.
