Burger King Worker Claims He Took Deposit Bag To Teach A Lesson

A Burger King assistant manager charged with grand theft in Florida said he took home a deposit bag to teach a lesson to a fellow assistant manager.

According to the United Press International, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Montrale Hamilton told investigators he found the deposit bag, which contained nearly $1,400 on the floor of the Deltona restaurant and presumed it had been dropped by the other assistant manager while making deposits.

The Daytona Beach News Journal went on to report that investigators didn’t seem to believe Hamilton’s story considering they charged him with grand theft.

Hamilton, 32, of Deltona, was arrested Saturday after he showed up to work without the money bag that contained nearly $1,400, said sheriff’s spokesman Gary Davidson said.

According to the report, the store owner noticed a bag missing when he stopped at the bank to make deposits, then decided to check the surveillance video to see what had happened.

The report continued on to say that Hamilton came to work and was asked about the missing deposit bag, and claimed he hadn’t seen it.

“He finally admitted he took the deposit bag after the manager told all the employees that they would be required to undergo a polygraph examination and that if the culprit returned the money, the owner might not press charges, Davidson said.”

It was at that point that Hamilton confessed to taking the deposit bag, so he went home to get it, then brought the still sealed bag back to the store manager.

Hamilton claimed that he was already planning to bring the bag back to work the day after he initially took it, but was late to work, so he forgot it.

“He acknowledged that bringing the deposit bag home was a mistake, but Hamilton insisted that he had no intention of keeping the money,” Davidson said.
