By now you might be aware that Sundance’s little darling Don Jon is hitting theaters pretty soon. The directorial debut from Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been impressing critics in droves since it opened and was subsequently sold at the Sundance Film Festival. Combine that with a uniquely successful social media campaign, and you have the makings of a film that has everyone buzzing from all demographics.
Sparking interest from both men and women, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon is not only about a man’s addiction to porn, but it’s about what bubbles underneath the hard exterior of Jon Martello, played by actor turned writer/director Gordon-Levitt. While we can’t discuss the brilliant facets behind the film just yet, we can show you the new stills that were released to promote Don Jon.
Don Jon’s synopsis is listed as:
“A New Jersey guy dedicated to his family, friends, and church, develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.”
Part comedy, part character dissection, and a splash of romance for good measure, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon, formerly titled Don Jon’s Addiction, impresses in all areas, and that includes its chemistry-filled cast. In addition to Gordon-Levitt, is Scarlett Johansson, who puts on a mean New Jersey accent. Rounding out the cast is Julianne Moore, Brie Larson, Tony Danza, Glenne Headley, and Jeremy Luke.
The film, which is currently playing at the Toronto Film Festival, has heightened the buzz around how Don Jon deals with the racy nature of porn. Recently Gordon-Levitt spoke to Men’s Health about the subject, saying:
“Porn’s fine. I’m aware that it can be hateful toward women. It can be addictive. It can get ugly. But it’s only damaging if you allow it to be.”
Don Jon hits theaters on September 27. Check out the trailer and stills below:
