Politician Returning Home After Dog Attack, Stubbs The Cat Is Doing ‘OK’

The feline mayor of an Alaskan town is returning home after being viciously attacked by a dog. Stubbs the Cat is the honorary cat mayor of Talkeetna, and her story made national headlines earlier in the month.

Stubbs was rushed to a nearby animal hospital after the attack, and his owner, Lauri Stec, says he is now back home and doing “OK.”

Stec says Stubbs is still in a lot of pain and currently on a pain patch.

The towns honorary cat mayor lives at Nagley’s General Store where Stec is the manager. Stec says that for the next few days the cat will live in a house connected to the back of the store where he will be nursed back to good health.

Stec says Stubbs is a social cat that craves the attention of store customers, and therefore he will only be isolated for several days before returning to the storefront.

The original attack occurred on August 31 and left Stubbs with a punctured lung, a fracture sternum, bruised hips, and a deep gash on his side.

Stec knew the dog involved in the attack and reported it to borough animal control officials.

Stubbs was elected as the towns mayor 15-years-ago. Stubbs won the election as part of a write-in campaign. Because there are only 900 people in Talkeetna, there is no actual mayor.

When he’s not greeting customers at the general store, Stubbs can often be spotted at the bar next-door where he drinks a water-catnip mixture out of a wine glass.

Donations to help pay for Stubbs’ medical bills are pouring in from all over the country.

A cat for a mayor may sound silly, but apparently Stubbs is one of the more popular politicians our country has to offer.
