Kno Tablets Begin Shipping On Tuesday, Single And Dual Displays Available
Kno today announced that their 14-inch tablets will begin shipping on Tuesday. The company’s single and dual-screen versions are priced at $599 and $899 and are the first tablets in North America to ship with the NVIDIA dual-core Tegra 2 processor chipset.
According to Kno, because of high demand, new sales are only being honored on an invite-only based system, although the company has yet to announce how many units they plan to ship during the initial run.
The system is based off a “heavily optimized” Linux system and can multitask, play HD videos and be used with multi-touch and pen input options.
According to Electronista:
Kno has focused the interface around rendering print-quality textbooks for education but also supports a full HTML5-capable browser with Flash and supports extras like audio recording and playback.
In terms of differences between single and dual displays, the single screen carries 16GB flash on a 2.6 pound frame, while the dual screen comes in at 5.6 pounds with 32GB flash memory.
It will be interesting to see how well a proprietary Linux based OS system will stack up against iOS and Android based tablets, but the real mystery here comes down to figuring out what “high demand” really means.
