James Franco Falls For Emma Roberts In ‘Palo Alto’ [Video]

Extremely busy actor James Franco plays a high school soccer coach who falls for an underrated girl in Gia Coppola’s directorial debut Palo Alto.

Based on Franco’s short story collection, the movie follows the misadventures of several teenagers who seem to do nothing but get into trouble. Coppola and Franco recently debuted the flick out of competition at this year’s Telluride Film Festival.

The Pineapple Express star is known for his comedic roles, but the guy is actually very good when things get serious. Although James Franco plays a coach who seduces Emma Roberts, he told The Associated Press that he has much more in common with another character in story.

Jack Kilmer, son of Palo Alto co-star Val Kilmer, plays Teddy in the flick. According to Franco, this character is essentially a reflection of who he was at that age.

“I guess I was a little like that, I was into art, I got into a bit of trouble, and yeah, that’s me,” the actor explained to the AP.

James Franco has done a remarkable job of balancing the different types of roles he takes. Not only did he star in the box-office hit This is the End, the busy actor also had a small role in the acclaimed drama The Iceman starring Michael Shannon, Winona Ryder, and Chris Evans.

The Spring Breakers star is also gearing up for the release of his action flick Homefront. The film finds the talented actor tackling the role of a meth deal named Gator. He will appear alongside Jason Statham, Clancy Brown, and Winona Ryder in the upcoming thriller. Sylvester Stallone penned the script.

The trailer for Gia Coppola’s directorial debut is embedded below. The drama doesn’t have a North American release date as of this writing.
