‘This Is The End’ Returns To Theaters This September

The hit apocalyptic comedy This is the End is scheduled to make a triumphant return to theaters across the US this September.

Sony Pictures is hoping to wring as much cash out of directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s box office hit before the movie lands on home video. If you missed the flick the first time around, you’ll have an opportunity to fix that problem in just a few days.

According to the studio, This is the End will return to theaters in North America for one week beginning September 6. The movie will be competing directly with Vin Diesel and David Twohy’s R-rated sci-fi outing Riddick.

Sony and Columbia Pictures’ $32 million comedy did a significant amount of business when it landed in cinemas earlier this summer. As of this writing, the flick has generated over $96 million in domestic ticket sales. When foreign receipts are figured into the equation, the film’s worldwide total sits at a health $114 million.

If you prefer to watch movies in the comfort of your own home, then you can pick up the flick on Blu-ray and DVD on October 1. This is the End will also be available as a digital download through various online retailers.

The film is officially described as follows:

The comedy follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Once they discover that they are experiencing the Apocalypse, they must come to terms with why they were left behind. Eventually they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship.

Counted among the cast are such familiar faces as Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, and Jonah Hill. There’s also a ton of celebrity cameos sprinkled throughout the movie. In this writer’s humble opinion, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Focus Features released its own apocalypse-themed comedy into theaters last weekend. Edgar Wright’s The World’s End tells the story of five friends who must stop a group of aliens from taking over the planet. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Martin Freeman star.

This is the End will return to theaters on September 6.
