Novatel Sues ZTE and Franklin, Claims Violation Of MiFi-Related Patents

Posted: December 10, 2010

Verizon MiFi

ZTE and Franklin are both facing lawsuits from Novatel, the technology firm is claiming that both company’s stole patents related to “key architecture and functionality” from their own MiFi series of mobile hotspots.

The ZTE manufactured Fivespot is carried by Verizon Wireless, while the ZTE Peel is offered by Sprint. Sprint also carries Franklin modems which are also named in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit brings into question both company’s use of WiFi tethering for phones, which could possibly mean that more company’s will be named in further lawsuits as infringing parties should the case end up in favor of Novatel.
