Sherry West Testifies About Teen Who Shot Her Baby In Stroller [Video]

Sherry West testified at length on Tuesday in the trial of De’Marquise Elkins, who is accused of shooting her baby Antonio Santiago as he slept in his stroller. Baby Antonio was only 13 months old on March 21 when he was shot dead in Brunswick, Georgia.

If you hit that button, you can see some key portions of Sherry West’s testimony.

According to West, De’Marquise Elkins approached her as she was walking home from the post office with baby Antonio sleeping in the stroller. Elkins and another teen demanded money.

You’ll see in the video that West thought he was a boy of about 15. A Fox News report said De’Marquise Elkins is actually 18 and faces life in prison if convicted of the baby stroller murder.

According to West, when she said she didn’t have any cash, Elkins shot her in the leg and then killed the baby with a shot to the face.

It’s upsetting testimony. Sherry West wept in court as she described her version of events.

“I told him I didn’t have any [money]…I told him that I have a baby and I have expenses and I didn’t have it…

“He asked me if I wanted him to shoot my baby. I said, ‘Please don’t shoot my baby.’

“…He shot out a warning shot into the ground…

“He shot me in the leg…

“He walked over and shot my baby…I tried to stop him. I put my arms over my baby but he still shot him…”

The prosecution has rested its case.

However, the defense team has contended that West received a $5,000 life insurance payment for the baby’s shooting death. According to THV 11, they were scheduled to resume cross-examining Sherry West today starting at 9 AM.

So there will likely be more information about Sherry West’s testimony released later today. We’ll keep you informed.
