Billy Ray Cyrus Might Quit Parents Television Council Advisory Board

Billy Ray Cyrus has been given the opportunity to step down from the Parents Television Council board following the group’s attack on Miley Cyrus and the VMAs.

The organization hasn’t held anything back regarding the former Hannah Montana star’s appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. Although that isn’t surprising in and of itself, the fact that Billy Ray Cyrus is on the advisory board has definitely raised a few eyebrows.

A representative for the Parents Television Council recently told Radar Online that the country music singer is free to step down if he feels the need. However, PTC Grassroots Director Melissa Henson insists that Cyrus is welcome to stay.

“We would like him to remain a member of the board. But if he decides that being on the board this is no longer a fit for him that that is his choice,” Henson explained.

This isn’t the first time the group has condemned Miley Cyrus for her outrageous behavior. Although her father stayed on the advisory board during those instances, they have yet to hear from Billy Ray Cyrus following the statement they released regarding the MTV VMAs.

According to Us Magazine, the Parents Television Council issued a very stern statement about MTV and Miley Cyrus following Sunday’s extremely controversial performance. Not surprisingly, the group wasn’t impressed with the sexual nature of the show.

The group said in a statement:

MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars and condom commercials — while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable. This much is absolutely clear: MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children. MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate ‘twerking’ in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds? How is it appropriate for children to watch Lady Gaga strip down to a bikini in the opening act? How is it appropriate for 14-year-olds to see a condom commercial and a promo for an R-rated movie during the first commercial break?

The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer has told Entertainment Tonight that he intends to support his daughter no matter what. She might be drawing the ire of several people following her much-maligned stint at the VMAs, but her dad is behind her 100 percent.

“She’s still my little girl and I’m still her dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change,” he explained.
