‘Argo’ Extended Edition Hits Blu-Ray This December

The extended edition of director Ben Affleck’s Argo is expected to hit Blu-ray this December.

Although the award-winning feature has already enjoyed a successful run on home video, the folks at Warner Bros. are hoping fans won’t mind dropping more money on a longer version of the flick.

According to the official press release, the Argo extended edition will feature over 10 minutes of extra footage incorporated back into the movie. In addition to some additional scenes, the new version comes packaged with a host of exclusive extras.

If you’re a fan of Ben Affleck’s flick, then this is probably the set you were hoping the studio would have released right out of the gate. The package includes a 64-page photo book filled with content, a reproduction of Tony Mendez’s CIA ID card, and a handy map of Tehran.

Special features on the Blu-ray include a host of behind-the-scenes documentaries, featurettes about the true story that inspired the flick, and a commentary featuring Ben Affleck and writer Chris Terrio. In other words, it’s the perfect holiday gift for someone who adores the movie.

Here’s how Warner Bros. describes Argo:

On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. In the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top ‘exfiltration’ specialist, Tony Mendez, to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

The Argo special edition will set you back around $49.99, a fair price considering all of the stuff you get. The extended version of the flick hits retail on December 3.
