New ‘Jack Ryan’ Movie Has A New Name: ‘Shadow One’

The new Jack Ryan film starring Chris Pine (Star Trek Into Darkness, Unstoppable) and Keira Knightley (Anna Karenina, Atonement) has a new title, Jack Ryan: Shadow One.

The movie is being directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also stars as the villain along with an all star cast lead by Pine and Knightley along with Kevin Costner (Man Of Steel).

Jack Ryan is the fictional character created by author Tom Clancy who has appeared in several of his novels and movie adaptations of them.

The character has been seen at several stages of his life. In this film he is a young CIA operative who uncovers a Russian plot to destroy the US economy with a terrorist attack.

The movie is considered a prequel which goes back to a time prior to any of the other films we’ve seen in the past. The synopsis is as follows,

Chris Pine takes the character to its beginning, where the injured Marine is recruited by CIA vet Kevin Costner to work as a high-level analyst. The two are pitted against a Russian oligarch (played by Branagh) who is pulling the strings of the financial market and delving into international terrorism with potential global catastrophic results.

Jack Ryan, the character, first delved into the public’s consciousness with The Hunt For Red October, the first of Clancy’s novels which included Ryan. Alec Baldwin played the role on the film by the same name.

Ryan has also been played by Harrison Ford in Patriot Games(1992) and Clear And Present Danger(1994); and Ben Affleck in The Sum Of All Fears(2002).

In this version Chris Pine plays Jack Ryan and Keira Knightley portrays his wife Cathy.

According to screening reports we should be seeing a trailer from Paramount shortly.

Jack Ryan: Shadow One is expected to be released on Christmas Day of this year.
