One Direction Back Harry Styles Over Taylor Swift’s ‘Lame’ VMAs Speech

One Direction have responded to Taylor Swift’s apparent dig at their fellow band member and her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.

While onstage to collect her moonman for “I Knew You Were Trouble” from Pharrell Williams and the Daft Punk duo, Swift told the star-studded Brooklyn Barclays Center audience:

“I want to thank the fans because I tweeted about this a lot, I really wanted this,” she then added, “I also want to thank the person who inspired this song, who knows exactly who he is, because now I got one of these.”

The camera panned to a Harry at that point. Footage showed the 19-year-old chewing gum and looking a little awkward.

One Direction had something to say about the matter at the New York premiere of their film This Is Us on Monday night.

While speaking to media outlets at the event, Liam Payne joked to New York Magazine, “When she [Swift] said those things about Niall [Horan, we were very, very pissed off.”

“Hashtag get over it,” the 20-year-old added.

Liam also vented to Us Weekly about Taylor’s speech. “I just thought it was a bit not needed. I mean, you just won an award, it’s like, concentrate on yourself!”

Asked by another reporter if he thought Swift’s behavior was “lame” Payne was clear.

“Yeah,” he replied.

As it turns out, it wasn’t only onstage the 23-year-old songstress took issue with Styles.

When One Direction took to the VMA stage to present the Best Pop Video to Swift’s friend Selena Gomez for “Come and Get It,” Swift appeared to mouth, “Shut the f*** up” when Harry spoke.

The jury’s out on whether Swift actually said the obscenity. Loyal pal Gomez wouldn’t be drawn at the Monday premiere of her new film, Getaway,

Asked to confirm or deny Swift’s apparent shade by a reporter, the Latina batted back, “Don’t try that with me.”

Taylor also sent a probably nuanced message to Harry at the Grammys earlier this year when she switched into an English accent and acted out a phone call mid-way through her “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” performance.

“I’m sorry, I’m busy opening the Grammys and we’re never getting back together,” she said at the time, in a manner many interpreted as a slight on her Brit ex.

The pair dated for a few months but split in January after a trip to the British Virgin Islands.

However, it seems Styles and Swift managed to put bygones down long enough after the VMAs to pose for a photo, albeit the ex-couple were separated by Brit troubadour Ed Sheeran and another pal.

According to Hollywood Life, Harry and Swift also dined after the music industry bash.

“We went for dinner,” Styled reportedly told the outlet, adding, “I had a mocktail.”

Meanwhile, Taylor told MTV News at the VMA’s she is ready to head back into the studio to record her new album.

“I think it’s about to start to kick into full gear,” she revealed.” I’m about to go into the studio. It’s about to get really intense.”

After Swift’s diss of Justin Bieber back in May at the Billboard Music Awards when he embraced his ex-girlfriend Gomez, and her continuing behavior with Styles — is anyone really buying her butter-wouldn’t-melt routine anymore?
