Selena Gomez Putting Music On The Backburner To Focus On Acting


Selena Gomez is going to give singing a break for a while.

The 21-year-old just released an album, Stars Dance, but said she plans to put her singing career on hold for a while to focus on taking more acting roles. Selena is currently on tour to support the album, but afterward will focus on acting “for a really long period of time.”

Gomez first broke out thanks to her acting. She appeared in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place from 2007 to 2012. While she built her resume as a Disney star, Selena also started to take movie roles including 2010’s Ramona and Beezus and 2011’s Monte Carlo.

Last year she appeared in Spring Breakers, a much darker movie than she had appeared in so far.

With another movie just released in Getaway, Selena Gomez has taken more steps toward establishing herself as a Hollywood star.

“I’ve been wanting to do different things starting with Spring Breakers,” Gomez said. “I wanted to do an action movie [like Getaway].” She added: “I got to dye my hair black, it just gave me an opportunity to kind of be someone else.”

Gomez admitted that her decision to focus on acting was subject to change.

“I’m a woman so I change my mind all the time,” Gomez said. “One day I want to do acting and just that, and then other times I just want to do music and just that, so it changes.”

Selena Gomez may be giving up music for a while take give her body a break. The singer’s Star Dance tour includes 58 performances, and after a show in Winnipeg the 21-year-old Instagrammed a picture showing her sitting on a private jet with two giant bags of ice on her legs.

“Now, I hurt. Everywhere,” the pop star captioned the Instagram photo.

Selena Gomez will play her final show of the tour in St. Louis on November 27.
