Maria Sugarpova Plans Cancelled By Sharapova

Maria Sugarpova disappeared before she ever existed. A report circulated earlier this week that Sharapova was planning on changing her name for the US Open, but the tennis stars’ agent released a statement today saying that Sharapova has decided against the name change.

Sharapova was reportedly planning to change her name for two weeks during the US open to promote her new candy line. The tennis star faced a bit of a backlash after fans found out about the marketing stunt and Maria has decided to forget about the Sugarpova name.

But that isn’t the reason that she decided against changing her name. Her agent Max Eisenbud told ESPN that it would just be too inconvenient to create a new identity for the tennis star.

Eisenbud said: “Maria has pushed her team to do fun, out-of-the-box-type things to get the word out about Sugarpova… In Miami, we’re going to fill a glass truck full of candy and drive it around town. This was an idea that fell along those lines. But, at the end of the day, we would have to change all her identification, she has to travel to Japan and China right after the tournament and it was going to be very difficult.”

It doesn’t look like Maria Sharapova will be changing her name for the US Open but it sounds like the tennis star still likes the idea.

What do you think of Maria Sugarpova? Do you care if the tennis star gets her name changed?
